The following six photos of Wadi Al-Nar show the road on three different occasions, the final shot during a foggy evening. The last four photos are clickable, offering links to enlargements sized between 118-155 K.
Wadi Al-Nar, pronounced wadee an-naar in spoken Arabic, is significant because it the the only road Palestinians can use to travel from the southern part of the West Bank (Bethlehem, Hebron) to the northern part of the West Bank (Ramallah, Jericho, Nablus, Qalqilia, Tulkarem).
The reason that Palestinians from the West Bank use this winding, circuitous and treacherous road is simply because they are forbidden to travel via the direct route through Jerusalem, without a permit. The vast majority of Palestinians do not get permits if they apply for them so few bother and 'choose' to travel this route.
The Wadi Al-Nar road adds 1-2 hours to the journey, dependent on the traffic and time of day. The road was dealt with in a previous diary entry in the Abu Ghnaim section of the Personal Diary.
